Travel and Accommodation

We are based at Heart of Hawick in Hawick, Scottish Borders (pictured).

Our main festival screening venues are at Heart of Hawick, and Unit Four, the Cornucopia Room.

Travel to Hawick
Visitors from London most often get the train to Carlisle, though some choose to fly to Edinburgh. Visitors from Edinburgh, Glasgow or more northern parts of Scotland often get the train to Galashiels and then a bus to Hawick.

Most of our international visitors fly to Edinburgh. Hawick is approximately 1.5 hours south of Edinburgh by car/bus and 1.5 hours northeast of Carlisle by car/bus.

By Air
The closest International Airport is Edinburgh.

From there, get the Airlink 100 bus, which runs from the airport to Waverley Bridge (near Princes Street and the main rail and bus stations). Buy tickets at the airport information desk, at the bus stop, from the driver or in advance online. There’s more information on the airport buses here.

Please contact us if you are planning on flying in to Edinburgh to visit the festival, as we may be able to pick you up from Edinburgh Airport if your arrival time coincides with other filmmaker pickups we have planned.

By Rail and/or Bus

The closest Rail Stations are:
– Tweedbank or Galashiels, Scottish Borders (north of Hawick), via Waverley Station, Edinburgh
– Carlisle, Cumbria (south of Hawick)

There is a bus service from immediately outside Carlisle and Galashiels train stations, direct to Hawick, via bus service X95. The bus journey from Galashiels to Hawick takes just more than half an hour. The bus journey from Carlisle to Hawick takes just more than one hour. First Group’s South East and Central Scotland journey planner is here.

Please contact us if you are planning on getting the train to Carlisle, as we may be able to pick you up if your arrival time coincides with other filmmaker pick-ups we have planned.

Hawick is situated on the A7 which runs from Edinburgh to Carlisle. Hawick is also accessible by the A68. Hawick is a 90-minute drive from Edinburgh, or just more than 2 hours from Glasgow.
