Our ninth edition will be held 2-6 May 2019
Alchemy Film and Moving Image Festival is an international festival of experimental film and artists’ moving image. It was initiated in 2010 as a collaborative project between Alchemy Film & Arts (a registered Scottish charity), Heart of Hawick (a venue and cultural regeneration initiative run by Scottish Borders Council) and Creative Arts Business Network (CABN).
The festival is produced in partnership with Heart of Hawick in the Scottish Borders: Heart of Hawick is the central venue and festival hub, while the Creative Director coordinates the creative input of the festival partners. Dr Richard Ashrowan, a moving-image artist based in the Scottish Borders, was Alchemy’s Creative Director from 2010 to 2019, and Michael Pattison is Festival Director for the 2019 festival.
Our 2018 edition screened 133 films from 30 countries over five days, with 36 world premieres, 18 European premieres, 24 UK premieres, 20 Scottish premieres and more than fifty filmmakers in attendance. Read more here about the impact the Festival has in Hawick.
