About Alchemy Film and Moving Image
Alchemy Film and Moving Image Festival is an international festival of experimental film and artists’ moving image. Founded in 2010 there have been seven editions of the Alchemy Film and Moving Image Festival, produced in partnership with Heart of Hawick. The 2017 festival screened 139 films from 21 countries over five days, with 46 world premieres, 14 European premieres, 39 Scottish premieres and over eighty filmmakers in attendance. Alchemy Film & Arts also engages in developmental projects for experimental film and artists’ moving image production in Scotland, including artists’ filmmaking residencies, a year-round exhibitions programme, filmmaking symposia, touring programmes and community filmmaking initiatives. In 2017, Alchemy Film & Arts curated Scotland’s national exhibition at the Venice Art Biennale.

Producer – Freelance contract

Contract fee: £9,300 (£24,000 pro rata)
Fixed term contract:10 January – 01 June, 2018, 5 days per week, Monday to Friday (100 days)
This is an incredible opportunity to play a central hands-on role in making one of the most creatively exciting international film festivals in the UK happen. You will lead on planning the festival and administrating the many complex elements of the festival; organising travel and accommodation for visiting filmmakers, locating and securing vacant premises, overseeing our moving image installations, supporting our volunteer team, assisting in print-traffic, marketing, promotion and budgeting and post festival evaluation. The role will be supported by the festival’s Creative Director and a range of other shorter-term contract positions, including a Marketing Coordinator, PR consultant, Hospitality Coordinator, Print Traffic Coordinator, Volunteer Coordinator, Installations Technical Manager and AV consultant.
The role will be based at our office and exhibition space in Hawick and with the main festival hub, the cinema at Heart of Hawick.
Public event or film festival management experience is an essential criteria as is previous budget responsibility and you will need to demonstrate that you possess strong organisational and adminstrative skills and that you are able to work under pressure whilst maintaining a warm, welcoming and compassionate manner.
The role demands a methodical approach to workflow planning and scheduling of complex tasks, you will be expected to have excellent spreadsheet capability and project management skills.You will have a ‘can-do’ attitude, strong problem solving skills and be a team player.
Experience in marketing, design, signage, online or print media would be advantageous as would previous involvement with recruitment, training and management of a volunteer workforce.
