Screenings in the Scottish Borders from 14 September – 8 December 2017 programmed by Harriet Warman for Alchemy Film & Arts in partnership with Moving Image Makers Collective.

Behind the Curtain is a celebration of the diversity of cinema. We screen documentaries, experimental works, cult, queer, trash and the best work from independent filmmakers from around the world. Behind the Curtain is your film community, whatever your identity.

This season of films provides a rare chance to see some of the most exciting, inventive, challenging and beautiful cinema right here in venues around the Scottish Borders. There’s Further Beyond, a documentary about an extraordinary journey; the ‘perversely overlooked’ Crime Wave brought to us by Glasgow-based cult film programmers Matchbox Cineclub; SQIFF 2017’s opening-night film by Bruce LaBruce, The Misandrists which is also part of the Border’s own feminist film club – films that look at the absurdity of gender roles (The Love Witch), women’s bodies and the intersection of gender, race and class (Feminist Film Club shorts), power dynamics (Daisies) and the mother-daughter relationship (No Home Movie). All screenings are introduced and there’s the chance for a chat afterwards. Enjoy!
